Insider Shares Update on the Next God of War Video Game
Last week, two new God of War games were announced during PlayStation’s State of Play—God of War: Sons of Sparta and God of War Trilogy Remake. Unfortunately, none of them is the next mainline God of War title, rumored to take place in Egypt; moreover, the next game series’ installment could not be what we all expected.
It was heavily rumored that Santa Monica Studio is preparing to send Kratos to Egypt, and it will be the setting of the future God of War video game. However, as revealed by reliable gaming insider Tom Henderson during the latest episode of the Insider Gaming podcast, the new God of War will be set in Greece; we will see the young version of Kratos, and his relationship with his father (not mentioned is it Zeus or his foster father) will be explored.
“I’ve got a feeling that it’s going to go back to Greek mythology to be honest. And now I’m wondering I really hope it does. Yeah. But and I’m wondering is that why they are doing the remake of the original trilogy and then like you know six 12 months later release the next mainline one kind of transition over into it.”
It might be the real strategy for Santa Monica, as God of War: Sons of Sparta is the prequel for the franchise that tells the origin story for Kratos. And as Henderson mentions, the studio is also working on the remake of the original God of War trilogy, set in Greece as well, just like the rumored new title.
As for Egypt setting, Santa Monica is confirmed to be working on another project, separate of God of War, and it’s now getting more and more likely this game will be set in Egypt, not the new God of War.
