According to Origami Portal, Ubisoft has also cancelled a multiplayer mode for Assassin’s Creed Shadows called Assassin’s Creed Codename League. The title was developed by Ubisoft Annecy and supposed to bring co-op missions similar to what we saw in Assassin’s Creed Unity. X social media user TheRealZephryss, who is a proper Assassin’s Creed fan, has summed up the information of Assassin’s Creed Codename League, and you can check this below:

“Some Information on Assassin's Creed Shadows Cancelled Multiplayer Mode, Codename League:

- It was intended to allow four assassins to join forces;

- Possibly set in the same feudal Japanese era as Assassin's Creed Shadows;

- Development began as a potential DLC for Assassin's Creed Shadows. It was meant to complement the season pass by offering a series of scripted missions playable with up to four players;

- League was also a project with a strong R&D component, intended to reintroduce cooperative features into the series’ modern technical foundation and provide more options for future Assassin's Creed projects, including the possibility of returning to a hybrid solo/multiplayer format, similar to Assassin's Creed Unity or Black Flag;

- Over the past year, management at Ubisoft Annecy began questioning the status of Assassin's Creed Shadows: League as an expansion, deeming it too time-consuming to produce at the desired quality;

- But Ubisoft Vantage intends to perpetuate the game's legacy, thanks to a small team formed after its cancellation. This group of about ten employees will first be tasked with transferring the technical advancements made to the Anvil engine, and then developing pitches for cooperative modes that could benefit a future major Assassin's Creed game. The goal of their mandate is for these modes to be highly replayable and less expensive to produce than League;”

At this moment, Ubisoft hasn’t officially confirmed they are abandoning the development of multiplayer mode for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The studio is also working on the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake, reportedly called Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and the next game series title, Assassin’s Creed Hexe. Each project is likely to be released later this year or next year.
