Embark Targets Families Of Arc Raiders Cheaters With New Ban System

Embark Studios has escalated its efforts to combat cheating in Arc Raiders by implementing a new system that targets Steam Family Sharing. This change ensures that if an account is suspended for cheating, all accounts associated with it through Steam Family Sharing will also be automatically suspended. The developer announced the update in the official Discord, aiming to close a loophole that allowed suspended players to return to the game by using another account within their family sharing plan.

The problem of cheating has been a persistent issue in Arc Raiders, with streamers like TheBurntPeanut openly threatening to quit the game after repeated encounters with cheaters. This frustration has been shared by many in the community, and this new measure is a direct response to those concerns. Embark has previously taken other actions against cheaters, including in-game traps and returning lost loot to players, with one streamer, Tfue, recently having 20 kits returned to him.

Under the new rules, if any account in a Steam Family receives a ban while using a shared Arc Raiders license, all accounts in that family will face a restriction of the same duration and type. If the owner of the license is banned, they will no longer be able to share Arc Raiders through Steam Family Sharing. Any players who were accessing the game through sharing will then need to purchase their own copy to continue playing. Even if a restricted family member is removed from the sharing plan, the ban will remain on their account until it expires.

"In our ongoing continuous efforts to make Arc Raiders a more fair experience for all raiders, we have just made changes to how Steam Family Sharing works for suspended accounts,"

— Ossen, a community manager at Embark, stated in the official Discord.

"Up until now, suspended accounts could exploit Steam Family Sharing to avoid account suspensions, making their way back to Speranza to continue their illegitimate play. This change prevents that by ensuring that if an account is suspended, all accounts associated with that account through Steam Family Sharing are also automatically suspended as well."

Read also, Embark Studios recently deployed an update to fix a bug that caused all map events to disappear from Arc Raiders. The developer also increased the frequency of the Bird City map event to address player complaints about its availability across different time zones. The Bird City event, which was introduced with the Headwinds update, modifies the Buried City map by adding more birds and high-value loot to rooftops.
