The Blood Of Dawnwalker Main Theme and The Witcher 3 Influence

Rebel Wolves has revealed the main musical theme for its upcoming role-playing game, The Blood of Dawnwalker, and the resemblance to The Witcher 3 is immediate. The theme debuted as part of a New Year update video, accompanied by a chamber orchestra performance arranged specifically for the presentation. Within seconds, the similarities become clear, not through imitation, but through shared musical language.

The composition opens with restrained, folk-influenced vocals layered over scraped violin lines. The tempo builds steadily, driven by heavy percussion that pushes the piece toward a louder, more urgent climax. The final moments swell into wailing vocals and frantic string work. The structure, pacing, and tonal palette closely echo the main theme used in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a comparison that feels intentional rather than accidental.

The Blood of Dawnwalker’s theme was composed by Nikola Kołodziejczyk. It features Polish folk singer Karolina Matuszkiewicz and folk violinist Kacper Malisz. None of the performers or composers involved overlap directly with The Witcher 3’s soundtrack team. That earlier score was co-composed by CD Projekt Red’s Marcin Przybyłowicz alongside members of Polish folk-metal group Percival, whose influence defined much of the game’s sonic identity.

Despite the lack of shared personnel, both soundtracks draw from the same cultural well. The Witcher series leaned heavily on Polish folk traditions, using raw vocal delivery and traditional string techniques to establish its tone. The Blood of Dawnwalker adopts the same approach, resulting in a sound that feels instantly familiar to players who spent time in Geralt’s world.

Percival’s future involvement with the Witcher series remains unclear. The group has not been formally confirmed as a collaborator on The Witcher 4. CD Projekt Red declined to comment when asked late last year. However, Percival did perform music from The Witcher 4 trailer during a Witcher anniversary concert in November, suggesting continued ties to the franchise. Their style has become closely associated with the series to the point where its absence would be noticeable.

Musical similarities are only one part of a broader pattern. The Blood of Dawnwalker shares several structural and thematic elements with The Witcher 3. Both are dark fantasy RPGs built around a central character with supernatural abilities. Both aim for an adult tone and use a third-person perspective. Combat, exploration, and presentation appear designed to appeal to the same audience.

The connection is not surprising given the studio behind the project. Rebel Wolves was founded by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who directed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The team includes multiple former CD Projekt Red developers who worked on that game. Their shared experience is visible not just in aesthetics, but in how the game is framed and marketed.

Tomaszkiewicz has been clear that resemblance does not mean repetition. The Blood of Dawnwalker introduces a protagonist named Coen, who is part human and part vampire. This dual nature is central to the game’s mechanics. At night, Coen gains access to abilities such as wall-running and short-range teleportation. These powers change how players navigate environments and approach encounters, creating a sharper contrast between day and night play.

More significantly, the game departs from the structure used in The Witcher 3. There is no traditional main campaign. Instead, players are given a single overarching objective: find and free Coen’s family within a 30-day time limit. The world is presented as an open valley, and the game does not dictate a fixed sequence of quests. Progress depends on player choice, timing, and exploration rather than a linear narrative path.

Rebel Wolves plans to release The Blood of Dawnwalker on PC and consoles later this year. The studio has positioned the game as familiar enough to attract fans of classic open-world RPGs, while distinct enough to stand on its own. The newly revealed theme reinforces that balance, grounding the game in recognizable traditions while signaling its separate identity.
