Split Fiction Fans Are Not Happy the Game is Not at The Game Awards 2025 GOTY Category
Back in 2021 at The Game Awards 2021, It Takes Two was named as "Game of the Year". Three years later, Hazelight Studios, the developers of It Takes Two and A Way Out, released their new project – Split Fiction. And it was a little bit surprised the game didn’t make it in “Game of the Year” category in The Game Awards 2025.
As was expected, Split Fiction received much appreciation from gamers and critics: the game is currently having 91 rating at Metacritic from critics and 8,7 rating from users. It’s hard to say whether the game is better than It Takes Two but it’s definitely one of the best recent co-op adventures.

Nevertheless, we have found out this year Split Fiction is not in "Game of the Year" category at The Game Awards 2025. Instead, the nominees are Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Ghost of Yotei, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hades II and Donkey Kong Bazanga. Full list of nominees you can find here.
As for Split Fiction, some fans on X social media are not happy the game wasn’t nominated for the main category. As you can see below, some users are wondering why Death Stranding 2: On The Beach are nominated for "Game of The Year" over Split Fiction and also a lot of people saying the game really deserved to be in the category.
