Supercell Confirms Squad Busters Shutdown — Servers to Remain Online Until Mid-2026
Supercell’s ambitious experiment, Squad Busters, is coming to an end. The studio has officially confirmed that the game will receive its final update in December 2025, after which it will remain playable for several more months before shutting down completely sometime in or after mid-2026.
A Promising Idea That Fell Short
Launched globally on May 29, 2024, Squad Busters was designed as a colorful, fast-paced action game bringing together fan-favorite characters from across the Supercell universe — including heroes from Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars, and Boom Beach.
The title first appeared in early 2023, with two beta tests followed by a soft launch in April 2024. It quickly attracted attention for its energetic gameplay, chaotic team battles, and vibrant cast of familiar faces. However, despite its promising start, Supercell admits that Squad Busters ultimately failed to meet the studio’s long-term quality standards.
According to the developers, the Heroes Update — released during the game’s first anniversary in May 2025 — was meant to redefine the game’s identity. Yet, even with the massive overhaul, deeper design challenges persisted. By early 2025, Supercell faced a tough choice: continue reworking the game or move on to new projects.
In the end, the studio chose to prioritize its core philosophy — to create games that can sustain vibrant player communities for years. While the “2.0” revision drew mixed reactions, with some players celebrating the changes and others lamenting the shift in tone, Supercell has decided to close the chapter on Squad Busters.
Player Support and Purchase Transfers
As of October 30, all in-app purchases have been disabled. Starting November 10, 2025, players will be able to transfer any purchases made in 2025 to another Supercell title. Additionally, those who’ve played Squad Busters extensively will receive free bundles and exclusive crossover cosmetics via the Supercell Store until the end of 2025.
Mixed Reactions from the Community
The announcement has sparked a blend of nostalgia and disappointment among fans. While some players expressed sadness over the game’s closure, others simply thanked the developers for the journey. Common sentiments across the community include messages like “It was a fun ride” and “It had so much potential.”
What’s Next for Squad Busters’ Story
Supercell has promised to release a written Q&A on November 13 to address player questions and explain the reasoning behind the decision in more detail. The studio also revealed plans to tell the full story of Squad Busters in some form — and has opened a feedback form for players to share their thoughts and questions directly.
Though Squad Busters didn’t become the next big hit Supercell had hoped for, its blend of iconic characters and inventive gameplay showed the studio’s willingness to experiment — even when the results didn’t go as planned.
