PlayStation Store Leak Hints at Leon S. Kennedy’s Return in Resident Evil Requiem

A new alleged leak from the Portuguese PlayStation Store has reignited speculation that Leon S. Kennedy could be a playable character in Resident Evil Requiem. The claim adds to a growing list of rumors that have surrounded the next major Resident Evil entry since long before its official announcement.

Back in January, five months prior to the game’s reveal at Summer Game Fest, well-known Capcom insider Dusk Golem asserted that “Leon is 100% the main character of RE9.” Despite Capcom repeatedly stating that Leon does not appear in Requiem, Dusk Golem has maintained that the iconic agent will play a role in the upcoming installment.

The Leak: A Possible Leon Costume in Resident Evil Requiem

On October 29, when Resident Evil Requiem pre-orders went live, a Reddit user claimed to have spotted a revealing line of text in the Deluxe Edition description on the Portuguese PlayStation Store. Translated into English, it allegedly read:

“Five costumes, including a Grace Costume: Dimitrescu and Leon Costume: DSO Special Agent.”

If accurate, this would strongly suggest Leon’s presence in Resident Evil Requiem, potentially as a playable or central character. The reference to a “DSO Special Agent” outfit also ties back to Leon’s role in Resident Evil 6, where he served in the Division of Security Operations.

Doubts Surround the Leak’s Authenticity

However, the leak’s legitimacy was quickly questioned. After Dusk Golem shared the post on X (formerly Twitter), users noted that the original Reddit thread was deleted shortly after being published, and the author’s account was removed. Others pointed out how easily text on a store page can be falsified by editing its local code.

Dusk Golem later acknowledged these concerns, sharing additional screenshots and a follow-up Reddit post debunking the supposed store listing. Even so, the leaker stood by his earlier claims, reaffirming:

“Leon is in RE9 as a main playable character alongside Grace. It’s just a waiting game until Capcom reveals him. I don’t know their marketing timeline, but I’ll share what’s happening with RE as best I can.”

What This Means for Resident Evil Requiem

While the authenticity of this specific leak remains unverified, it continues to fuel fan theories that Resident Evil Requiem will feature multiple protagonists — possibly connecting storylines from past entries. Whether Leon’s return is part of Capcom’s secret marketing strategy or simply wishful thinking from fans remains to be seen.

For now, Resident Evil Requiem continues to be one of Capcom’s most anticipated — and most mysterious — upcoming releases.
