Alexandre Amancio Announces Nightholme, a Horror Extraction Game from Studio Ellipsis
Alexandre Amancio, best known for directing Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and Assassin’s Creed: Unity, has revealed his next project — Nightholme, a large-scale horror extraction game developed by his new Lisbon-based studio, Ellipsis.
Set in a decaying fantasy world overrun by a mysterious corruption known as Gloom, Nightholme pits rival teams of three against each other and against monstrous bosses called Nightwalkers. Players, known as Grimrunners, traverse open environments in search of rare loot while battling both human and inhuman foes. Each run allows players to consume potions that morph them into monstrous forms, shifting their abilities and appearance dynamically as the match unfolds. Victory depends not only on defeating enemies but escaping the world alive with the spoils — Terror Seeds, which unlock lasting powers for future runs.
The game’s first trailer offers a glimpse of pre-alpha footage alongside cinematic shots that highlight its stylized horror-fantasy aesthetic. Ellipsis includes veterans from Ubisoft, Bungie, Avalanche, and Massive Entertainment, signaling a project with substantial technical and creative backing.

The transition of Assassin’s Creed oversight to Vantage Studios marks one of the most significant changes yet, signaling a new era for the long-running franchise under shared creative leadership with Tencent. Alexandre Amancio left Ubisoft after 20 years of working on the Assassin's Creed franchise.
“After opening our studio doors last year, we’re thrilled to share our first game, Nightholme,” Amancio said. “Our team of both newcomers and industry veterans set out to create a one-of-a-kind multiplayer horror experience that’s as terrifying as it is unpredictable, where every match feels like its own unique story of survival.”
He added that the goal was to break from the formula of derivative multiplayer titles: “The last thing anyone needs is another generic multiplayer game, so with Nightholme we’ve made sure that we’re offering a fresh and exciting experience to fans of horror and extraction games.”
Nightholme is available to wishlist now on Steam, with more information on its official website.
