Rumor: Resident Evil 0 Remake Reportedly Targeting 2028 Release
A new wave of industry rumors suggests that Capcom is planning to release a Resident Evil 0 remake in 2028, marking another major revival of a classic entry in the survival horror franchise. While the developer has yet to confirm anything, several reliable sources indicate that the project has been in development for some time under the codename “Chamber.”
Revisiting a Classic
Originally launched in 2002 for the GameCube, Resident Evil 0 served as a prequel to the first game in the series. The story follows Rebecca Chambers, a young S.T.A.R.S. medic, and Billy Coen, an escaped convict, as they fight to survive the outbreak that started it all. The title distinguished itself through its dual-protagonist mechanic, allowing players to freely switch between Rebecca and Billy to solve puzzles and combat enemies.
While Resident Evil 0 was later ported to the Wii and remastered in HD, fans have long speculated that Capcom would revisit the game with a full remake — similar to Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4.
📅 Multiple Sources Point to 2028
Industry insider Dusk Golem recently claimed that Resident Evil Code: Veronica is expected to release in early 2027, followed by Resident Evil 0 in 2028, and then a brand-new mainline title in 2029. These details were later corroborated by MP1ST, which reported that the RE0 remake has already been in active development for several years.
According to the same report, Beyond Capture Studios is handling motion capture work, and Jon McLaren—best known for portraying Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy 2—may be involved in the project, possibly playing Billy Coen.
These leaks also align with earlier claims made earlier this year, though the release order appears to have changed, with Code: Veronica now preceding Resident Evil 0.
🩸 What’s Next for Resident Evil
Before either remake arrives, fans will be able to experience Resident Evil Requiem, launching on February 27, 2026. The upcoming entry returns to Raccoon City and features Grace Ashcroft as the new protagonist. Capcom has confirmed that Requiem will emphasize horror elements more strongly than recent titles, appealing to fans of the series’ darker roots.
Rumors also suggest that Leon S. Kennedy could make an appearance, though this remains unconfirmed speculation.
With a clear roadmap emerging—Code: Veronica in 2027, Resident Evil 0 in 2028, and a new mainline title in 2029—it seems that Capcom’s remake initiative is far from over. Fans of the series can look forward to several years of both nostalgia and new nightmares ahead.
