That hasn’t stopped the community from keeping it alive. Passionate fans continue to breathe new life into the cartoonish GTA-style title through countless mods and fan projects. Some focus on enhancing visuals or updating mechanics, while others attempt full-blown remakes using modern engines. But one ambitious modding group, known as Slurm Team, has taken things even further — turning the Simpsons classic into a brand-new experience inspired by Futurama.

From Springfield to New New York

In Futurama: Hit & Run, Springfield has been completely transformed into New New York in the year 3000, complete with underground Old New York, pneumatic transport tubes, and other familiar landmarks from the sci-fi series. The modders rebuilt every environment and character model from scratch, all while preserving the charming early-2000s aesthetic of the original game.

A Work in Progress with Big Ambitions

The project is still under active development, with several features yet to be finalized. Currently, dialogue uses AI-generated voice acting, though Slurm Team has already begun work on a fully voiced dub featuring real actors. The team has made it clear that their vision for Futurama: Hit & Run is expansive, aiming to create a complete and authentic crossover experience.

Endorsement from a Hit & Run Veteran

In a surprising twist, Joe McGinn, the lead game designer behind the original The Simpsons: Hit & Run, has publicly praised the mod and expressed excitement about playing it himself. His enthusiasm highlights just how enduring the legacy of the 2003 classic remains — and how fan creativity continues to keep it alive in new and unexpected ways.
