Dragon Quest VII Reimagined Announced for PC Release in 2026 with Denuvo
Square Enix has announced that Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, a full remake of the classic PlayStation RPG, will arrive on PC on February 5, 2026. The game will feature upgraded visuals, a redesigned art style, reworked gameplay systems, and Denuvo anti-tamper protection.
The remake introduces a diorama-inspired presentation, with Akira Toriyama’s character designs reinterpreted in a doll-like 3D style. Environments, towns, and dungeons are rebuilt as miniature handcrafted models, giving the game a distinct visual identity compared to previous entries. While the story remains faithful to the original, the adventure has been streamlined to be easier to follow, with refinements that improve pacing and accessibility.
Gameplay retains the series’ turn-based combat but adds several new mechanics. The updated vocation system allows players to mix two jobs through Moonlighting, while the Let Loose feature introduces powerful special moves that trigger when characters reach heightened states. A new vocation, Monster Master, adds the ability to summon creatures for combat support. These updates aim to make battles more engaging without losing the strategic depth of the original.
Alongside the announcement, Square Enix confirmed PC specifications. The minimum requirements list an AMD Ryzen 3 1200 or Intel Core i3-6100, 8GB of RAM, and an AMD Radeon RX 460, Intel Arc A380, or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750. Recommended settings suggest 16GB of RAM with an RX 580, Arc A750, or GTX 1070. The game will also require 15GB of storage space.

The decision to use Denuvo is consistent with other recent Square Enix PC titles, though the software remains divisive among players due to its impact on performance. Still, Square Enix is aiming to deliver a stable experience across a range of systems, including modern GPUs from AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA.
Two months ago, news of the remake stirred debate among fans. Some expected Square Enix to continue its HD-2D trend following Dragon Quest III and the upcoming Dragon Quest I & II bundle, but reports of a different approach for Dragon Quest VII sparked questions. Many recalled the original 2000 release as a landmark in scale and scope, with its 3DS remake praised for localization and quality-of-life changes. At the same time, the game has long been known for its extreme length, often requiring 80 to 100 hours to complete, leaving fans wondering how the new version would balance faithfulness with accessibility.

Dragon Quest VII remains one of the series’ most ambitious entries, telling a story that spans multiple islands and timelines, with a strong focus on world-building and exploration. Dragon Quest VII Reimagined appears to keep the narrative intact while introducing design and combat updates to attract both longtime players and newcomers.

The game’s release continues Square Enix’s ongoing effort to modernize the Dragon Quest catalog for new platforms. With the Erdrick Trilogy closing out in October 2025, this remake marks the next major step in bringing the series’ classics to modern hardware. Fans will see whether the reimagined take maintains the original’s depth while offering a more approachable experience when it launches on PC in early 2026.
