Copper Update Brings Big Changes to Minecraft – Including a Fan-Favorite Mob Revival
Minecrafthas unveiled a wave of new features centered around Copper, a material that has often gone overlooked in the game. This upcoming update introduces fresh crafting possibilities and, most notably, the long-awaited debut of a mob that lost the community vote years ago.
Mysterious Teaser Sparks Copper Speculation
The excitement began with a subtle teaser: a screenshot showing the letters “CU” and an in-game message stating that Steve had been teleported to “curious coordinates.” These coordinates corresponded with copper’s real-life atomic number, mass, and periodic table group. Fans quickly decoded the hint, correctly predicting that a major Copper-themed update was on the horizon.
New Copper Tier Gear and Gameplay Mechanics
Minecraft has now confirmed the contents of this upcoming game drop. Copper is being elevated to a new material tier, allowing players to craft Copper weapons, tools, and armor. These items are designed to bridge the gap between Stone and Iron tiers—making Copper a valuable resource for newer players who may not yet have access to rarer materials.
However, Copper gear comes with intentional limitations to avoid overpowering such a common resource. For instance, Copper Pickaxes offer better durability and mining speed than Stone tools, but they cannot mine higher-tier blocks. This makes them ideal for gathering Iron, effectively speeding up a player’s early progression without upsetting the game’s balance.
The Return of a Forgotten Mob: The Copper Golem
One of the most exciting additions is the introduction of the Copper Golem—a creature originally proposed in a previous mob vote but ultimately not chosen. Now, it’s finally getting its chance to shine.
The Copper Golem is small in size but incredibly useful. When crafted, it comes paired with a new storage item called the Copper Chest. Here’s how it works: place items in the Copper Chest, and the Golem will begin sorting them. It will retrieve items and organize them into other nearby chests where similar items are already stored. For example, if the Golem finds a stack of cobblestone in another chest, it will move any additional cobblestone from the Copper Chest to that stack. This feature is a huge quality-of-life improvement for players who struggle with inventory management.
Availability and Feedback Opportunities
Currently, all of these features are available only in the Beta and Preview versions of Bedrock Minecraft. However, a Java Edition Snapshot is reportedly in development and will be released soon.
Players are encouraged to try the update in the Beta or Preview builds and provide feedback or bug reports to the development team. While no official release date for the full update has been announced, fans eager to test the new Copper content can dive in early through these pre-release versions.
