The news was shared by Hideaki Nishino, head of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s gaming division. According to Nishino, the PS6 is already a top priority for the company, despite the fact that the PlayStation 5 remains in the middle of its life cycle.

🖥️ Focus on Local Gaming Remains

While Sony has yet to reveal specific specs or features for the PlayStation 6, Nishino made it clear that the next console will continue to support local game installations. He explained that relying solely on cloud gaming isn't realistic yet, as the company can’t guarantee a consistently strong internet connection for all users across regions.

📅 When Will the PS6 Launch?

There’s still no official release date, but internal documents from the Microsoft–Activision Blizzard merger case hinted at a possible launch window no earlier than 2028. This timeline is consistent with Sony’s typical seven-year console cycle:

If that trend holds, the PlayStation 6 could arrive near the end of this decade.

As anticipation builds, fans can expect more information in the coming years about what Sony’s next-gen console will bring to the table.
