Marvel Rivals Players Discover Ultron Trick to Fire Energy Beam Faster
Marvel Rivals players have uncovered a clever technique that allows Ultron to fire his energy beam more quickly. Introduced in Season 2.5 as the latest Strategist-class hero, Ultron brings a unique mix of support and high damage potential to the battlefield.
In the Marvel Comics universe, Ultron is a highly intelligent AI driven by a mission to annihilate organic life—especially the Avengers. He's widely recognized as a ruthless villain in both the comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and he takes on a similar antagonistic role in Marvel Rivals. While some fans were initially surprised by his classification as a Strategist, it fits with his character: a hyper-intelligent AI with a masterful grasp of tactics.
Now that Ultron is officially playable, many players have been experimenting with his abilities in the Practice Range. One player, siphagiel, discovered a trick that appears to boost the firing speed of Ultron’s primary attack, the Encephalo-Ray. By performing a melee attack between energy beam shots, players can cancel part of the firing animation, resulting in faster and more consistent attacks. A side-by-side comparison video posted on Reddit highlights the difference, showing the improved shooting cadence using this method.
Does the Melee Cancel Actually Speed Up Ultron’s Attack?
In a follow-up post, siphagiel noted that the trick seems most effective when cooldowns are disabled in the Practice Range. Although the impact is subtle, they claim that the technique shaves off approximately 0.65 seconds per magazine—still a noteworthy improvement for high-level players.
The Marvel Rivals community responded positively, appreciating the shared discovery even if the benefit is slight. Some fans pointed out that similar animation-canceling strategies are already used by Cloak and Dagger players, who bypass the reload animation for Lightforce Daggers by switching abilities instead.
However, not everyone is convinced the trick is worth it. Some users argued that the melee cancel might interrupt the Encephalo-Ray’s burst damage at the end of its firing cycle. Others noted that the extra effort of triggering melee attacks may not be worthwhile when compared to simply letting the animation finish.
Reload mechanics in Marvel Rivals remain a point of contention among players, especially when applied to magic-based characters like Doctor Strange and Storm. Many have suggested that the developers, NetEase Games, revisit this mechanic for the sake of immersion. Still, it’s likely that reloading exists across the roster for balance reasons.
