How to Unlock the Revenant in Elden Ring: Nightreign
On May 30, the long-awaited Elden Ring: Nightreign finally launched. The game immediately made a splash in the gaming industry and gathered several hundred thousand online players in the first hours after its release. However, we are here not to discuss the success of the new product, but to tell you how to unlock one of the game characters, namely Revenant.
There are eight playable character classes in Elden Ring Nightreign, two of which are not available at the beginning of the game. The Duchess can be unlocked once you've found a Timepiece (usually by beating or possibly even just trying to defeat the first Nightlord). The second character, no less important, is Revenant. In this article, we will provide a detailed guide on how to unlock her as a playable Nightfarer.
Where to Find the Besmirched Frame
Similar to the Duchess, unlocking the Revenant requires a specific Relic. However, this one is harder to obtain.

After you’ve successfully completed the Tricephalos Expedition and defeated your first Nightlord, head back to Roundtable Hold and visit the Jar Merchant. This vendor offers a selection of Gestures, Relics, and Relic Holders. One item, in particular, is key: the Besmirched Frame. It costs 1,500 Murk, a currency earned at the end of Expeditions. The further you progress, the more Murk you receive. You can also quickly boost your Murk by selling unwanted Relics during Vessel customization.

Once you've purchased the Besmirched Frame, open your map of Roundtable Hold. A new character icon will have appeared in the east wing, just off the central chamber. Enter the marked room to find a ghostly figure resembling a small female doll, silently gazing at a painting.
Interacting with her will instantly transport your character back to Limveld’s tutorial area. But instead of facing Margit the Fell Omen, this time you’ll face the Revenant, also known as the Night Idol. This boss fight is no walk in the park, but we’ll help you prepare.
Boss Fight - Night Idol

It’s important to note: the enemies rarely attack you all at once.
- The Page is the most aggressive. He will dash forward and try to stab you with his rapier. Focus on dodging and luring him away from the others.
- The Pumpkin Head also moves toward you but much slower. Keep him in your line of sight while dealing with the Page to avoid being ambushed.
- The giant skeleton stays immobile at the back of the arena. It usually only tries to slam its massive hand down if you come too close. This makes it a low priority early on — but be warned: once the other two spirits are down, the skeleton enrages and starts charging devastating beam attacks.

If you thought beating the spirits was the end — think again. The Revenant herself is an extremely dangerous foe with powerful abilities that force you to keep moving at all times.
Understanding the Revenant’s Abilities

Even at close range, the Revenant can unleash serious damage with little warning. Her Triple Rings of Light spell launches a trio of spinning projectiles that deal heavy damage both as they expand and return. Always strafe when at a distance to avoid them.
She also uses Rejection, a knockback spell that can interrupt your rhythm and push you away. If you’re staggered or running low on stamina, she’ll take the opportunity to leap forward and slash with a spectral claw, capable of dealing massive surprise damage.
This fight may take several attempts to master — but with practice, you’ll learn to manage her patterns, pace your dodges, and find openings to strike.
Helpful Tips
Choose a class you’re comfortable with, and focus on taking out the spirits one by one before engaging the Revenant directly. Avoid her spell combos and be patient.
We recommend prioritizing the Skeleton after the Page, so you can avoid its deadly beams later in the fight. Then finish off the slower Pumpkin Head.
Once her allies are down, bait the Revenant into attacking, dodge past her strikes, and use your skills to expose weak points. Staying at medium range makes it easier to avoid her Rings of Light.
Playing as the Revenant

Once you defeat her, the Revenant becomes available as a selectable Character Class. She’s a highly unique and complex class. While her core stats are fairly low (aside from magic), her true strength lies in summoning spirits — the very ones you fought — and raising defeated enemies as temporary spectral allies. While not easy to master, she offers immense potential once you fully grasp her mechanics. In the hands of a skilled player, the Revenant becomes a powerful force capable of dominating any battle.
