Elden Ring Nightreign Reveals Revenant Class

FromSoftware has officially unveiled a new class archetype for Elden Ring: Nightreign, one that aligns closely with earlier rumors surrounding a Spirit Ash-focused build — commonly referred to by leakers as the Revenant. While the class name is still unconfirmed, its function is now unmistakably clear: players will be able to adopt an indirect, summon-based combat style in Nightreign.

🗓️ Elden Ring: Nightreign Arrives May 30

Originally announced at The Game Awards 2024, Elden Ring: Nightreign is a co-op-focused ARPG spin-off, set to release on May 30, 2025. Over the past few weeks, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have slowly revealed its playable classes — known in-game as Nightfarers.

The launch trailer, released on May 27, offered the first visual confirmation of the previously rumored Revenant-style class, continuing the rollout of character archetypes.

👻 Revenant Nightfarer Specializes in Spirit Ash Summons

At around the 42-second mark of the launch trailer, a Nightfarer can be seen summoning a massive spectral skeleton, confirming earlier reports of a summon-centric class. The aesthetic of the summon closely mirrors the Spirit Ash visuals seen in the base Elden Ring game.

While the official name wasn’t stated, this reveal aligns with leaks suggesting a class centered around Spirit Ashes — reportedly named Revenant. It’s a significant addition for fans who prefer strategic or support-driven playstyles over direct melee or ranged combat.

⚔️ New Enemies Teased in Trailer

The trailer also introduces several new enemy types, including a towering dragon that emits lightning attacks, seen midway through the video. Given FromSoftware’s history with boss design, this fearsome creature likely includes grab mechanics and high-damage combos, judging by its exaggerated biting animation and massive jaws.

🧭 Nightfarer Archetypes Offer More Depth Than Original Classes

Unlike the original Elden Ring, where classes like Samurai, Confessor, or Astrologer served mainly as starting templates, Nightreign’s Nightfarers are built for long-term specialization. Early impressions from the February 2025 network test suggest each class has distinct advantages and drawbacks, making class choice more meaningful than before.

Some archetypes may even feel "overpowered" with the right gear drops, pointing to build diversity and potential balance challenges.

🎮 Revenant Could Be Nightreign’s Most Accessible Class

Spirit Ashes were often considered Elden Ring’s unofficial difficulty scaler, allowing players to trivialize even the toughest bosses. If Nightreign follows the same mechanics, the Revenant class could offer a smoother experience for those seeking a less punishing path.

In the original game, Spirit Ashes and Vitality were major contributors to survivability. That philosophy appears to carry into Nightreign, making Revenant a go-to class for players focused on strategic combat and survivability.
