REPO Devs Reveal New Cart Cannon Weapon, Gameplay Tweaks Coming to Beta

A powerful new weapon is headed to REPO, as indie developer Semiwork has unveiled the upcoming Cart Cannon, designed to blast through both enemies and obstacles. The new weapon will be added in a future update to the REPO beta client, alongside key balance changes affecting health packs, energy crystals, and enemy behavior.

Since launching in early access, REPO has quickly become one of 2025’s most popular indie games, praised for its chaotic, physics-based gameplay. Players team up to collect and extract as many valuable items as possible from each level—while dodging enemies and preventing their loot from being damaged and losing value. According to Semiwork, the game's first major update is already live on the open beta client, introducing new mechanics like Overcharge and a host of bug fixes.

A Look at the Cart Cannon: Turning Carts into Combat Vehicles

The highlight of Semiwork’s May 16 developer vlog on YouTube was a first look at the Cart Cannon. This innovative weapon lets players transform their cart into a mobile war machine: one player pushes the cart, while another mans the cannon to fire at threats.

The cannon can damage both enemies and environmental objects, so careful aim will be crucial. Even more interesting, the weapon can shift functions depending on how it’s positioned—acting either as a Cart Cannon or a Cart Laser, depending on which side faces forward.

To try the Cart Cannon early, players can switch to the beta version via Steam:

  1. Right-click REPO in your library
  2. Click the gear icon and select Properties
  3. Navigate to the Beta tab to opt in

While mods remain exclusive to the live client, players can switch between live and beta builds at any time.

Balance Changes Based on Community Feedback

Alongside new weapons, the upcoming beta update will introduce several player-requested tweaks:

  • Health Packs will become more effective during early levels but will scale down gradually after level 5. This change comes after Semiwork patched an exploit involving "infinite healing."
  • Energy Crystals and Health Packs will be made more worthwhile to purchase and use during runs.
  • Certain enemies will now be more vulnerable to being stunned by small objects, helping to ease the difficulty curve for new players.

What’s Next for REPO Players?

With its blend of co-op chaos and creative physics mechanics, REPO continues to evolve through community-driven updates. The Cart Cannon and gameplay refinements show that Semiwork is serious about both keeping the game fresh and lowering the barrier for new players.

Early access fans have a lot to look forward to—and more reasons than ever to dive back into the cart-pushing mayhem.
