Hades 2 Is Coming to Switch 1 and 2 Before Other Consoles!
After spending about a year in Early Access on Steam, Hades 2 is gearing up for its full 1.0 launch in 2025 on PC. On consoles, though, Supergiant Games has confirmed that the vibrant isometric roguelike will arrive first on Nintendo Switch 1 and the new Switch 2, with an exclusive window before landing elsewhere.
During last week’s Switch 2 Direct, the game was shown running at a silky-smooth 60fps. A page on Nintendo’s official site confirms: Hades 2 is coming first on console to both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2! If there was any lingering doubt, a new “Creator’s Voice” mini-documentary by Nintendo on YouTube 🔴 further emphasized that it will be launching first for consoles on Nintendo Switch 2.
In the documentary, Supergiant’s devs reflected on how crucial Switch 1 was for the success of Hades 1 — and how Switch 2’s upgraded hardware will make Hades 2’s combat even snappier and crunchier ⚔️🍀. While the first game aimed for 60fps on the original Switch (with some dips here and there), it sounds like performance will be rock-solid on Switch 2. Plus, expect much faster load times! 🚀
Interestingly, the video heavily focuses on Switch 2's perks, with very little direct mention of Switch 1. Some fans are guessing this is just marketing lingo rather than a hint at some weird "next-gen exclusivity" split within Nintendo's own platforms. Honestly, when did announcing a game's release get so complicated?
Meanwhile, the timed exclusivity news stirred some unease among PC players, who have been loyally playing the Early Access build and all its patches 🛠️🎮. A few worried that the PC version might be delayed behind the Switch launch. However, while Supergiant hasn’t explicitly ruled that out yet, it seems way out of character for them. As one fan put it in the Hades 2 Discord this morning:
“Anyway Supergiant are the goat they would never do such thing.”
Kotaku has reached out to Supergiant for more clarity.
One lingering question: Will there be a special Switch 2 Edition of Hades 2? Some Switch 2 upgrades shown so far for other games cost an extra $10–$20 for added content (like Tears of the Kingdom’s QR code features). Hopefully, Hades 2 won't follow that trend and will offer the same content across both Switch models — just with smoother performance on the newer device.
Update 4/9/2025 12:39 p.m. ET:Supergiant creative director Greg Kasavin confirmed to Kotaku 📰 that Hades 2 will launch simultaneously on PC, Switch 1, and Switch 2 once it reaches 1.0 later this year, after “at least one more Major Update” during Early Access. 🛠️⏳
When asked if the game will differ across Switch versions, Kasavin said that on Switch 2, Hades 2 will run at 1080p instead of 720p but didn't comment yet on whether that means a higher price.
“We will have additional details closer to launch,” he added.
