Season 2 marks the next major chapter for Marvel Rivals, bringing a new hero, fresh cosmetics, and a glamorous new theme.

Following a packed first season — which introduced events, new maps, and even the entire Fantastic Four — the devs are delivering on their promise of rapid updates. Season 2 is shaping up to be another massive step forward.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Marvel Rivals Season 2 update, including its start date, new additions, and more.

Marvel Rivals Season 2 Start Date 📅

Season 2 officially kicks off on Friday, April 11, 2025, as confirmed by the developers in an announcement on April 3.

Just like last time, there’s expected to be no downtime between seasons — Season 1 began immediately after Season 0, and Season 2 looks to follow the same pattern.

Season 2 Theme: The Hellfire Gala 🎭

Following the "Endless Night" theme of Season 1, Season 2 embraces the stylish and extravagant Hellfire Gala. The event was first hinted at through in-game lore teasing that " Doom has a gala to attend," before being fully confirmed in the official trailer.

The Hellfire Gala, originally a celebrated event in the X-Men comics from 2021, saw mutants open the gates of Krakoa to the world, showcasing mutant culture with dazzling fashion and festivities. In Marvel Rivals, expect the Battle Pass and store to be filled with elegant skins featuring characters like Rocket, Cloak & Dagger, Star-Lord, and more dressed to impress.

New Hero: Emma Frost Arrives ❄️

While early leaks suggested Blade would be the next hero, it's actually Emma Frost stepping into the spotlight in Season 2!

Emma will be a Vanguard hero, utilizing her diamond skin ability to absorb damage. Trailers show her switching between two stances — one offering hitscan ranged attacks, and the other transforming her into a melee tank.

Some highlights of her kit include:

• A deployable shield that blocks incoming damage while buffing allies
• An Ultimate ability that mind controls enemies, pulling them into an AoE and draining their health

At launch, Emma Frost will have two skins available:

• Emma Frost – X-Revolution
• Blue Sapphire

Additionally, the mid-season update will introduce Ultron — officially confirmed after months of speculation.

New Map: Krakoa’s Hellfire Gala 🌺

In line with the new theme, players will battle it out on a brand-new map: Hellfire Gala: Krakoa.

Krakoa — the sentient island turned mutant homeland — provides a lush, dynamic battleground that ties directly into Marvel lore.

Meanwhile, two maps will rotate out of ranked play:

• Yggsgard: Royal Palace
• Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya

These maps will still be available in Quick Play and Custom Games.

Season 2 Battle Pass 🎟️

The Season 2 Battle Pass will include:

• 10 heroic skins
• A special Cerebro Database event where players can earn the free Mantis "Flora Maiden" skin
• Bonus seasonal rewards, such as the Scarlet Witch Chaos Gown costume unlocked after completing 9 matches

Additionally, Namor’s "Will of Galacta" skin will be obtainable through Twitch Drops.

Expect fresh weekly missions and new rewards throughout the season.

Ranked Play & Rank Reset 🔥

At the start of Season 2, all players will experience a rank demotion — approximately 9 divisions or about 1.5 full ranks. For example, if you finished Season 1.5 at Diamond 1, you’ll restart at Silver 1.

Key changes:

• Ranked access now requires reaching Level 15 — unless you’ve previously played Competitive.
• End-of-season rewards include the Emma Frost Golden Diamond skin for players who reach Gold.
• Individual performance will now have a greater impact on how many ranking points you gain or lose per match.

Buffs, Nerfs & Hero Fixes 🔧

As always, balance changes are coming:

• Doctor Strange and The Thing are receiving significant nerfs
• Pen Parker gets notable buffs to health and damage

Bug fixes and optimizations include:

• Captain America’s shield now correctly ricochets while moving backward
• Camera glitches after Adam Warlock revives are fixed
• Namor’s Ultimate reliably deals damage when hitting pillars
• Bucky no longer glitches while activating his Ultimate under poor network conditions
• Cloak & Dagger’s model-switch lingering issue resolved
• Iron Fist’s infinite floating glitch patched
• Wolverine’s Feral Leap bugs (both player and enemy-side) fixed
