Doom: The Dark Ages Will Be the Longest Game in the Series — Here’s What We Know

Blogger Tyler McVicker recently sat down with Doom: The Dark Ages director Hugo Martin and shared some exciting new insights into the upcoming title from id Software. If you thought previous entries were intense, get ready — this one’s shaping up to be the biggest Doom yet.

🕹 22 Levels, Mechs, and Dragons?

According to McVicker, The Dark Ages will feature 22 playable levels, a noticeable jump in scope compared to earlier games in the series. Even more interesting is how about 15–20% of the campaign will involve either piloting the Atlan — a towering combat mech — or flying on the back of a dragon.

Players will control the Atlan across three distinct levels, introducing large-scale destruction and a fresh gameplay experience. Meanwhile, the dragon will primarily serve as transportation across vast level spaces, helping players reach distant areas within sprawling environments.

⏱ A Campaign That Goes the Distance

If Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal clocked in at around 11.5 and 14.5 hours respectively, The Dark Ages is aiming even higher. With each level estimated to last about an hour, the full campaign could run over 20 hours, making it the longest single-player experience in Doom history.

📅 Release Date

Doom: The Dark Ages launches on May 13, and will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

Get ready to rip, tear, and ride dragons like never before. 🔥💀
