GTA 6 on 2026: GTA Online Will Continue After Launch, According to Take-Two CEO
Grand Theft Auto 6 may be one of the most anticipated games of the year, but Rockstar's parent company Take-Two is keeping some key details under wraps. While a release date for the game has not yet been confirmed, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently dropped some intriguing hints about its future—particularly about GTA Online and its potential longevity even after GTA 6's arrival.
In a conversation with IGN, Zelnick suggested that GTA Online could remain active as a "legacy title" even after GTA 6 is released. This would allow the current GTA Online to continue alongside the new title, similar to Take-Two’s history with supporting legacy games. He cited NBA 2K Online in China, which continued running after NBA 2K Online 2 launched in 2017. Zelnick emphasized that the company has shown a strong willingness to support properties that have active player bases, meaning GTA Online could continue to exist for fans who still want to play.
While Zelnick clarified that this was purely theoretical and that an official announcement would come later, this is an important sign that GTA Online won’t be immediately phased out. With the continued success of GTA Online, it makes sense for Rockstar to keep it running, especially considering how much time and money players have invested into the game. However, it’s still unclear how the original GTA Online will mesh with any potential new version in GTA 6, leaving fans wondering how the two games will coexist.

Adding to the mystery, CEO of Corsair, Andy Paul, believes that a PC port of GTA 6 will arrive in early 2026, further fueling speculation about the game’s timeline. This would be a shift from Rockstar’s usual pattern of console releases before PC ports, with previous titles like GTA 5 taking around 19 months before hitting the platform. Despite this, Corsair’s business, which specializes in peripherals and components, is poised to benefit from the anticipated demand for hardware upgrades as GTA 6 is expected to be a very demanding game on PC.
While we’re still waiting for official confirmation, it’s clear that Take-Two and Rockstar are thinking about the future of GTA Online alongside the release of GTA 6. As we get closer to the expected release window of Fall 2025, it’s exciting to think about how both games will evolve and how Rockstar will continue to support the massive player base that has made GTA Online a success. Whether you're eager for the next chapter in the Grand Theft Auto series or looking to continue your GTA Online adventures, it seems like Rockstar plans to keep both alive for the foreseeable future.
