When Does the New Competitive Dota 2 Season Start?
To the delight of all fans, the new competitive Dota 2 season kicks off in January after the holiday season. The year will begin with qualifiers for DreamLeague Season 26, and the first major tournament of 2025 will be the FISSURE PLAYGROUND Belgrade 2025, scheduled to take place from Jan 24, 2025 to Feb 2, 2025, in Belgrade, featuring a prize pool of 1 million USD dollars.
This Dota 2 event will officially mark the start of the 2025 professional esports season, which will include tournaments hosted by ESL, BLAST, PGL, as well as the highly anticipated Esports World Cup 2025 and The International 14. Although Valve (the organizers of TI) have slightly reduced their activity in competitive Dota, fans are still hoping for greater involvement from them this year. Up next, we provide you with a detailed list of all the Dota 2 upcoming tournaments, ensuring you don’t miss a single one.

The International 2025
Let’s move on to the main pro event of the year in Dota 2 and esports as a whole – The International. This annual Dota 2 event is organized by Valve and PGL and serves as a true celebration of esports, featuring various shows, contests, and, most importantly, the crowning of the best team of the year in this discipline. It’s worth noting that The International holds the record for the largest prize pool in esports history, with TI10 boasting a staggering $40 million prize pool.
This year's event will be the 14th and, as expected, will continue the legacy of previous tournaments, attracting significant attention and breaking numerous records. Traditionally, TI takes place in September, and according to preliminary announcements, the 2025 tournament will begin on September 4. While the official venue has not yet been confirmed, rumors suggest that China might host the event, as the country demonstrated great organizational capabilities during esports tournaments in 2024. This would be a good decision, because TI was already held in China in 2019 and showed the passion of the local public for this game.
As for the format, it will be standard for this event, and the prize pool, as always, will start at $1.6 million, with additional funds coming from a percentage of Battle Pass sales.
Esports World Cup 2025
The highlight of the Upcoming Dota 2 tournaments 2025 will undoubtedly be the Esports World Cup, which will also feature a Dota 2 esports tournament. This event, named the Riyadh Masters, will take place in Saudi Arabia as part of the larger esports championship.
While the exact dates have not yet been announced, the Riyadh Masters 2025 is expected to occur in June. Details about the prize pool remain unconfirmed, but it is expected to be approximately the same as in 2024.
