For games Xbox Series X there will be no paid "updates"
According to VGC, the gaming division of Microsoft strongly recommends that developers abandon the idea of selling updated versions of games for the Xbox One. Microsoft recommends developers use Smart Delivery.
Smart Delivery is a system where users who buy a game for one of the Xbox generations receive a free copy for another console. Companies that do not want to use Smart Delivery are advised to find another alternative.
Projects without Smart Delivery support will lose some of the functionality. So, for example, such titles will not have a unified database of save and achievements for both consoles. At the moment, the system is supported by large projects such as Cyberpunk 2077, AC: Valhalla and others. Microsoft also said that by abandoning Smart Delivery, developers will not be able to change their minds and add support for the system in the future.
The Smart Delivery system is primarily designed for the convenience of players. This approach also allows developers to release their projects on different platforms, including Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and cloud services.
