Fortnite May Soon See a Super Mario Crossover, Leak Suggests
Fortnite has long established itself as a game brimming with collaborations, seamlessly blending its unique universe with characters and elements from various franchises. Known for its signature characters like Peely and Fishstick, Fortnite has also amassed an impressive array of crossovers that span movies, anime, TV shows, comics, music, sports, and even influencers.
In the realm of video games, Fortnite’s collaborations include high-profile IPs such as Street Fighter, League of Legends, Gears of War, and Assassin’s Creed. These partnerships have brought beloved characters like Ryu, Chun-Li, Jinx, and Ezio Auditore into the game, adding to its immersive experience. Yet, one iconic name has remained noticeably absent from Fortnite’s crossover roster: Super Mario.
Recently, however, a leak hinted that this could change. Prominent leaker iFireMonkey shared on Twitter that a new cosmetic asset resembling the iconic Super Mario question block had been discovered. This asset, described as a flipbook-style item, was found in Fortnite’s files with the label “MC box.” Speculation in the replies suggested that “MC” could stand for “Mario coin box,” adding to the excitement.
The question block is a well-known feature in the Mario series, rewarding players with items such as coins or power-ups. While this leak doesn’t provide further details, it has sparked hopes and theories within the Fortnite community. Some fans expressed enthusiasm for a potential crossover, suggesting it could even include a Mario Kart-inspired game mode. Others, however, were more skeptical, proposing that the block might be related to something different, like Rocket Racing—although with Rocket Racing no longer receiving significant updates, this theory seems less likely.
As with any leak, it’s important to approach the information cautiously. Details can shift or may not come to fruition at all. Another point to consider is Nintendo’s strong focus on family-friendly content, which has historically made crossovers more complex. While Epic Games has reportedly made past attempts at negotiating with Nintendo, the outcome remains uncertain.
Only time will reveal whether this leak signifies the beginnings of a significant collaboration or if it will remain an intriguing but inconclusive discovery. Regardless, the prospect of Mario making his way to Fortnite has already captivated fans, leaving them eager for further updates.
