The official trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme has been released
The actor is featured in the game as a special alternate skin for the character Johnny Cage, which can be unlocked by players who purchase the Premium Edition.
Below, you can watch the trailer that was released shortly after the first video featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme was shown during an interview with the series co-creator Ed Boon, who appeared on First We Feast's Hot Ones.
Boon mentioned that the Van Damme DLC had been "30 years in the making," explaining, "When we were creating the very first game, our goal was to make a Van Damme arcade game.
"We really wanted to see the name 'Van Damme' on the screen. 'Bloodsport' and 'Universal Soldier' were big at the time, I believe.
"We reached out to his representatives and said, 'We want to make a game with Jean-Claude Van Damme,' and I don't know if he declined or if it just never got to him or something like that.
"But it was two guys in their twenties who wanted to make a video game, and I can understand why Jean-Claude Van Damme might say, 'No, this is not for us.'
"So we tried multiple times, going back and forth with his team. This time, we got lucky, and we actually managed to get him. We even have his voice, and he will be the character Johnny Cage. It's a complete full-circle moment and the realization of a dream that has come true."
Earlier this week, it was also announced that Megan Fox will appear in Mortal Kombat 1 as both the face and voice of the character Nitara.
Mortal Kombat 1 is set to be released on September 19, 2023, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
