Suda51 and Swery65 showcased the first gameplay of the game "Hotel Barcelona."
In 2019, Suda (often recognized as Suda51), the mastermind behind No More Heroes, and Swery (often known as Swery65), the creative force behind Deadly Premonition, made a significant announcement regarding their joint venture to develop a horror video game titled "Hotel Barcelona".
"Hotel Barcelona" is a 2.5D action game infused with elements that pay homage to the horror film genre. The game's script and direction were helmed by Swery, drawing inspiration from an original concept conceived by Suda51. The game is set to be released on Xbox Series X/S in 2024.
Beneath this text, you'll find a trailer that offers the first glimpse of gameplay since the game's initial announcement. This trailer was unveiled during a live broadcast at the Tokyo Game Show, hosted by Xbox.
"Hotel Barcelona, the central stage for all unfolding events, serves as an integrated entertainment complex, encompassing attractions such as a casino and camping facilities surrounding the hotel. This design aims to create a cohesive gaming environment housing seven distinct smaller worlds," Swery elaborated in conversation with Xbox Wire.
"Given that Suda-san and I are collaborating on this project, each of these worlds possesses its own unique quirks, and within each of them, players will encounter a boss-killer-maniac. The primary objective of the game is to vanquish each boss and advance through all seven worlds."
He also emphasized that the bosses in the game do not draw direct inspiration from specific movie characters.
"Instead, they serve as embodiments of various subgenres within the horror film realm. For instance, there exists a multitude of horror subgenres, such as films centered around maniacs, zombies, summer camps, babysitters, and more. We devised ideas for our bosses by drawing from the unique contributions of each of these subgenres throughout the years."
