Sega has ceased the development of the game "Hyenas" and canceled several other unannounced projects

The decision was announced on Thursday after analyzing the gaming business.

"In response to the declining profitability in the European region, we evaluated the project portfolio in each of the European development centers, and as a result, the decision was made to cancel the game 'Hyenas' and several undisclosed projects that were in development," the official statement reads.

"As a result, we plan to write off expenses for projects in the development stage."

Sega also intends to reduce fixed expenses in Europe, with a particular focus on cutting costs at the British company Creative Assembly, located in Horsham, England.

"We plan to reduce various fixed expenses across several company units in the respective region, with a specific emphasis on Creative Assembly Ltd," the statement notes. "One-time expenses related to reducing fixed costs are expected."

Creative Assembly's next game, Total War: Pharaoh, will be released on October 11. In August of last year, the studio also announced that they are working on a new action game and another undisclosed project.

Due to the planned structural changes, most of which will be implemented in Europe, the company now expects a financial loss in the current fiscal year, ending on March 31, 2024.

The game "Hyenas," announced in June, was a multiplayer shooter with elements of heist and extraction, originally planned for release this year on PC, Mac, and both current and previous-generation consoles.

Doubts about the game's future arose in the summer when Sega characterized it as a "complex project."
