Pete Hines, the head of Bethesda's publishing division, is leaving the company after 24 years of service
Pete Hines, one of the most prominent figures in the gaming industry and a key part of the Bethesda publishing company, owned by Microsoft, announced his retirement on Monday through his social media channels. After nearly a quarter-century in leading roles at the company, he has decided to conclude his career and embark on a new chapter in his life.
"After 24 years, I've decided that my time at Bethesda Softworks has come to an end," he wrote. "I'm retiring and starting an exciting new chapter in my life, exploring interests and passions, doing good deeds, and enjoying life."
Pete Hines has been a pivotal figure at Bethesda and is considered one of the key creators behind iconic games such as "Elder Scrolls" and "Fallout." His decision to depart was not made lightly, but after the successful launch of "Starfield," he felt it was time for a change.
He also emphasized that this is not a farewell and that his love for Bethesda and its community remains unwavering. He expressed gratitude to his fans and the community for the energy and support they've provided over the years.
In Bethesda's statement, they acknowledged Pete Hines' vital role in the company's development. "Pete's public presence was just a small part of his role at Bethesda, although how he represented us reflected the values he nurtured here: authenticity, integrity, and passion," the statement said.
"His contribution was an integral part of building Bethesda and its family of studios into the fantastic organization it is today. His vision helped propel us forward, and his hard work inspired us."
Bethesda's employees and the gaming community have expressed their gratitude and wished Pete Hines all the best in his new chapter. This farewell comes shortly after the successful launch of "Starfield," which was the company's first game release after Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda in 2021.
