It's possible that the release of the game Stalker 2 could be postponed to early 2024
Despite the fact that lists of games expected to be released in the current year continue to appear on Xbox, Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, conflicting information about the release date has emerged on the official Stalker 2 website.
On the main page of the game's official website, it is stated that it "will become available in 2023." However, on another page, in a recently published news article, it is implied that fans might have to wait a bit longer to immerse themselves in the post-apocalyptic world of this shooter sequel.
According to the provided information, the game "Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl" is planned to be released on personal computers and Xbox Series X/S consoles in the first quarter of 2024. Furthermore, it will be available to Game Pass subscribers immediately after release, and pre-orders are already available on the official game website, as well as on Steam and GOG platforms. Physical copies are also available for pre-order on the official website.
After Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February of the previous year, the game's release date seemed uncertain. At that time, the GSC Game World studio was based in Kyiv, but subsequently, it partially moved its operations to the Czech Republic.
However, not all team members were able to leave Ukraine, and some developers continue to work on the game amidst the conditions influenced by the war, which drastically changed their daily lives.
Some employees of GSC Game World also participated in voluntary initiatives in their homeland or became part of the country's armed forces. Among them are those who were featured in a development diary released in June of the previous year. This diary showcased how the impact of the war affected the team's work and their creative process.
Eugene Grygorovych, the CEO and director of GSC Game World, also shared these challenges in an interview with IGN (as mentioned above), which was conducted at Gamescom in Germany this week, when Stalker 2 became available for play for the first time.
As of today's date, August 24th, it is Ukraine's Independence Day. It was on this day in 1991 that the country declared its independence from the Soviet Union.
In a post made today on the official Stalker Twitter account, it is stated: "On this Independence Day, we have a great opportunity to present our game to the world and move forward in its development. We always remember that this chance is given to the defenders of our homeland, to their efforts in defending freedom and the country's borders."
