In the USA, the sales volume of the Nintendo Switch has surpassed the lifetime results of the Wii

According to a report by GamesIndustry.biz, Circana (formerly the NPD Group) announced that in July 2023, the Nintendo Switch surpassed the Wii in terms of sales volume in the US.

Currently, it is stated that the gap is less than a million units compared to the Xbox 360's lifetime sales in the US and less than five million units compared to those of the PS2.

The Nintendo Switch had already overtaken the Wii in global sales in February 2022, surpassing the Wii's total lifetime sales of 101.63 million.

The Wii had significant popularity in North America, where at least 48 million units were sold. This is why it took the Nintendo Switch a longer period to surpass the Wii's sales in the US.

During its latest quarterly financial presentation earlier this month, Nintendo announced that the global sales volume of the Nintendo Switch had reached 129.53 million by the end of June 2023.

Fueled by the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo shipped 3.91 million Switch consoles during the three-month period from April to June 2023, representing a 13.9% increase compared to the previous year.

Nintendo forecasts the sale of 15 million consoles in the current fiscal year ending on March 31, 2024, representing a 16.5% decline. This is due to a significant slowdown in Nintendo Switch sales in its seventh year on the market.
