CD Projekt Red's Moving Tribute: Ken Block's Legacy Lives On in Cyberpunk 2077
CD Projekt Red has paid a touching tribute to the late Ken Block within the world of Cyberpunk 2077, and this heartfelt gesture was recently uncovered by a vigilant fan. This touching Easter egg is part of the comprehensive 2.0 update for Cyberpunk 2077, which made its debut on September 21.
Ken Block tragically lost his life in a snowmobile accident in early January at the age of 55. His passing marked the end of a remarkable career that began with rally racing and expanded to include ownership of Hoonigan Industries, a California-based automotive apparel and media company. Given Block's extensive history of collaborations within the gaming world, numerous game developers and gamers alike paid tribute to the legendary rally driver in various creative ways following his untimely demise.
Adding to this list of interactive tributes, CD Projekt Red has crafted a Cyberpunk 2077 car that draws significant inspiration from the Hoonigan Ford "Hoonicorn" Mustang RTR, one of Block's most iconic vehicles. The vehicle in question, first noticed by a Reddit user named hoonyosrs, appears to be a distinct variant of Cyberpunk 2077's Quadra Type-66. While not an exact replica of the Hoonicorn, likely due to licensing constraints, its overall design unmistakably evokes the spirit of the iconic rally car, particularly with its black-green color scheme and chassis shape.
The car is also adorned with conspicuous advertisements on its sides and prominently features the number "43" sticker, paying homage to Block's car number. On the right side, it sports the "K.B. 67-23" tagline, signifying the years of Block's birth and passing. This unique vehicle is dubbed the Type 66 Hoon, and it was discovered by an intrepid player during the Epistrophy side quest, where V aids Delamain in recovering rogue AI cabs in a Northside warehouse.
Interestingly, early player reports suggest that the Type 66 Hoon can always be found in that location following the 2.0 update, regardless of any ongoing missions. Furthermore, the car isn't just drivable; it's also obtainable. Cyberpunk 2077 players can add it to their garage by simply locating its keys, cleverly hidden in a box beneath a sloped plate near the vehicle.
This heartfelt addition to Cyberpunk 2077 serves as a touching homage to the legendary rally driver. It follows Forza Horizon 5's tribute to Ken Block earlier in the year, which included Hoonigan-branded equipment and a driveable version of the Hoonicorn. The Type 66 Hoon now joins the ranks as the eighth variant of the Quadra Type-66 available in the popular RPG.
