For the third consecutive week, Pikmin 4 has been topping the Japanese charts
According to Famitsu data, the sequel to the game once again topped the sales charts for the week ending on August 6th, selling a total of 78,838 copies and bringing the overall physical sales volume in Japan to 596,388 copies.
In second place is "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom," which has currently sold over 1.8 million physical copies in Japan alone.
As is customary for Japan, all 10 positions in the top 10 sales for this week are occupied by games for the Nintendo Switch.
After the release of Pikmin 4 last month, its initial sales in Japan exceeded the sales of all three previous Pikmin games combined.
It's important to note that these rankings only consider physical copies, and Nintendo has not disclosed information about the number of digital copies of Pikmin 4 sold up to the present, suggesting that the overall sales volume is likely significantly higher.
Before the release of Pikmin 4, the best start for a game in this series was the reissued version of Pikmin 3 for the Switch (titled Pikmin 3 Deluxe), which sold 171,349 physical copies in the first week. At the time, Pikmin 4's sales at the beginning of its release amounted to 401,853 copies.
