The beta version of cloud streaming for PS5 has launched - and it supports quality up to 4K
At present, the beta version of cloud streaming for the PS5 is currently in progress, gradually being made available to random PSN users. This iteration enables players to stream select games from the cloud to their PS5 consoles. Full access to this service will be included as a component of the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.
It's been reported that the roster of supported titles will encompass PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Game Trials, as well as digital PS5 games owned by players.
Users who were chosen for the beta testing have highlighted that the service provides streaming at resolutions of 720p, 1080p, 1440p, and 4K. This is notable as Xbox Cloud Streaming, the closest comparison among consoles, currently doesn't offer a 4K option.
Upon the official launch of this feature, users will have the capability to stream cloud games with PS5 title support directly to their PS5 consoles. As Sony conveyed during the introduction of this feature, this will facilitate a more convenient game initiation process for Premium members, allowing them to dive into their preferred games without needing to download them onto the console beforehand.
Sony also elaborated that, as new games are continuously released for the PS5, they are intending to broaden the scope of cloud streaming capabilities to encompass PS5 titles, alongside games for PS3, PS4, and classic titles that are already accessible for Premium members to stream.
Earlier this year, Sony Interactive Entertainment's CEO, Jim Ryan, disclosed that PlayStation is in the process of devising "bold plans" within the realm of cloud gaming.
He remarked, "We are observing a surge in gaming habits that prioritize mobility, and cloud technologies will play a pivotal role in capitalizing on this trend for us and others. We are harboring intriguing and ambitious strategies to amplify our undertakings in the domain of cloud gaming, which will be unveiled in the forthcoming months."
