Exploring Co-op Benefits in Diablo 4: The Need for Matchmaking Features
Considering the many advantages of playing Diablo 4 in co-op, it's high time for future updates to introduce matchmaking features. Blizzard should seriously contemplate how incorporating some form of matchmaking could enhance the player experience by providing solo players with extra assistance and benefits. The grind to reach max level and complete the Paragon Point Boards in Diablo 4 can be arduous, and playing with a party offers a great way to ease the grind for those who may be missing out.
While standard activity-based matchmaking options could prove beneficial, exploring unique styles of matchmaking could also be advantageous. Even for players who don't require the XP boost provided by nearby players, there are other additional benefits to playing in a group that solo players should have easier access to.
Diablo 4 Thrives with Companionship
One of the notable ways that Diablo 4 encourages players to team up is through the experience point boost provided when other players are nearby. Although players don't need to be in the same party to benefit, playing in a group ensures the XP boost is consistently active. Teaming up with random nearby players for different World Events is common, but this XP buff can be useful in various activities throughout the game.
In addition, co-op play in Diablo 4 allows fallen teammates to be revived. This feature is especially valuable in Hardcore mode, as having companions can provide a lifeline in challenging situations. Successfully reviving another player during a boss fight, a World Event, or a Nightmare Dungeon can turn the tide of the battle.
Furthermore, PvP in Diablo 4 is best experienced in a group. While there isn't a dedicated healer or support class, having teammates provides strength in numbers that solo PvP players may struggle to match. This advantage extends to the entire game, with co-op play often proving less difficult compared to solo play, especially in PvP scenarios.
Potential Matchmaking Features for Diablo 4
While the clan feature in Diablo 4 serves as a stepping stone for matchmaking, it has limitations when it comes to actual cooperation. Players in different time zones, world tier difficulties, and story progress may find it challenging to coordinate and play together frequently in public clans. Implementing a more sophisticated matchmaking system, similar to the Summoning Pools in Elden Ring, could address this issue.
Drawing inspiration from the "Call For Help" and "Answer The Call" matchmaking options in Tom Clancy's The Division games could also benefit Diablo 4. This style of matchmaking, tied to the Shepherd system, could reward players with unique titles based on their cooperative efforts. Incorporating both a matchmaking feature and a reputation system could foster greater cooperation in Diablo 4, and adding stylish player titles akin to The Division 2 would be a bonus.
Overall, Diablo 4 has much to offer in co-op gameplay, and with the right matchmaking features, it could become an even more engaging and socially rewarding experience for players.
