The Elder Scrolls 6 Must Revive This Legendary Relic from Oblivion

Once stolen by mortals ages ago, the most invaluable Daedric artifact is poised to reclaim its role in The Elder Scrolls 6. Nocturnal, the Daedric Prince of Night and Darkness, holds a prominent position among the Daedric Princes, revered as the patron of the Thieves Guild and the source of all thieves' luck. The enigmatic Nightingales, the guild's elusive leaders, serve as her devoted agents, even in death when their souls are claimed by her. Nocturnal boasts a collection of significant artifacts, including the renowned Skeleton Key featured in Skyrim. Yet, one of her most renowned possessions, long pilfered, should make a captivating appearance once more in The Elder Scrolls 6.

In Cyrodiil, the leader of the Thieves Guild diverges from Skyrim's Nightingale tradition. Instead, the guild is helmed by the Gray Fox, a figure shrouded in history for countless centuries, notorious for purloining the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal from the Daedric Prince. The Cowl, an esteemed relic of Nocturnal, reputedly grants its wearer invisibility. While its power doesn't quite extend to true invisibility, its effects are undeniably potent and have enticed thieves for generations. In The Elder Scrolls 6, the Gray Cowl would prove an invaluable asset.

The Intriguing History of the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal in Cyrodiil

Emer Dareloth, a master thief, successfully pilfered the Cowl, provoking Nocturnal to inflict a curse upon it. This curse would expunge the wearer's presence from history, rendering them a stranger to all acquaintances, even if they relinquished the Cowl or passed it on. Owners of the Cowl, including the Thieves Guild's leader, faced the constant erasure of their identities from historical records whenever they donned it.

Compelled to adopt the persona of the Gray Fox exclusively, those bound by the curse endured several limitations. Notably, they were forever confined to the identity of the notorious Gray Fox, a wanted criminal, and were unable to assume civilian personas. Moreover, they became strangers to all who knew them. The events unfolding in the Thieves Guild questline eventually lift the curse, ensuring that the Cowl remains in mortal hands.

The Potential of the Gray Fox in The Elder Scrolls 6

The Cowl now shrouds the wearer in complete anonymity, attributing any crimes committed while donning it to the infamous Gray Fox rather than the individual. This means that bounties incurred or misdeeds perpetrated are expunged once the Cowl is removed. As players acquire the Cowl after the curse is lifted, they reap all the benefits while evading the drawbacks of assuming the Gray Fox's identity.

The Cowl of Nocturnal stands as the most valuable of all Daedric artifacts, surpassing even Nocturnal's other possession, the Skeleton Key, which loses relevance as players advance in lockpicking and must be returned to Nocturnal to conclude the Thieves Guild questline in Skyrim. With the Cowl traditionally residing in mortal hands, there is no reason to return it to Nocturnal, and its presence in The Elder Scrolls 6 is both justifiable and eagerly anticipated.

The convergence of the Gray Fox and Nightingale storylines could introduce a compelling conflict within the Thieves Guild in The Elder Scrolls 6, resurrecting a beloved figure sought after by players and NPCs alike in Skyrim. The Gray Fox remains an iconic legend in The Elder Scrolls lore, and a triumphant return in Hammerfell would be met with great enthusiasm, particularly if it involves outwitting Nocturnal once more.
