Trailer for Gothic 1 Remake released
At the presentation from THQ Nordic, we were shown an ambiguous trailer for Gothic 1 Remake, which can please and upset fans of the series. Why is that? Let's figure it out.
Playable teaser
This teaser was released in December 2019. Given that at that time the game was already in development, the developers have been working on it for about three years. For example, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was developed for 3.5 years, from which you can understand that this amount of time is enough to achieve results. Few developers decide to release this kind of teasers, because it can be very expensive. But THQ Nordic surprised and did the right thing that they decided to collect feedback from the fans of the series and hear in which direction they should move. I doubt that the game would have been warmly received if the release version of the game had been with the combat system from the teaser and the stupid protagonist, who somehow lost his charisma and became simply pompous.
Not exactly a trailer
Although the released video bears the word "trailer" in the title, it is difficult to call it that, rather it is a promo video that the publisher demanded to release, and the developers had no choice but to follow the orders of the management. Note that we weren't even given an estimated release date for the remake, which isn't a good signal for fans of the series.
Old mine? But why?
It is her that we can see in the video from THQ Nordic, but why was she chosen for the "trailer"? Let's be honest, this location is not as memorable and important as the old, new or swamp camp. It would be much more logical to stir up the interest of fans with exactly such locations that have sunk into the soul, and to heighten the effect, at least one of everyone's favorite characters could be shown. Diego, Lester, Milten, Gorn, or at least Xardas would fit well in this role. Well, they could not show them if the developers would already have ready-made versions of these characters.
Conclusion
No matter how sad it may be, it will take a long time to wait for the release of a full-fledged Gothic game, because few people are involved in the development and after three years of work done, little could be demonstrated. In the trailer, they showed the Crawlers we've already seen in recent screenshots.
It is unlikely that such a meager demonstration was made on purpose, because if the developers have something ready, they will definitely show it and demonstrate it, but if they don’t, then the conclusion suggests itself. As a result, we are left with a double feeling, on the one hand, we waited for at least some information from the developers, and on the other hand, we are unlikely to see the game this or next year. Well, the heart of the fans is the most faithful and strong, they will definitely wait for the development progress, the main thing is that these promotions be. And we will continue to sit with a candle in our hands, waiting for new information about the remake, so wonderful, dear and legendary Gothic 1.
