Indonesian government blocks foreign resources: Steam, EGS, PayPal and others
The resonant news stirred up Indonesian gamers and other netizens. Most digital resources have ceased to be available in the country, including: Steam, Epic Games, Origin, Opera, PayPal, Amazon, Yahoo, Battle.net and many others.
This is due to the fact that a few days ago, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Kominfo), issued Decree No. 5 of 2020. It concerns private providers of electronic systems (PSE), and is aimed at their control and regulation.
The regulation applies to all digital companies, both domestic and foreign, operating in the country. They are required to register on the official website and get approval from Kominfo. For non-compliance with the law, companies will be fined, followed by blocking, as in the above.
There are currently 8069 domestic companies registered in the country, and 207 foreign ones, including: Google, YouTube, Search Engine, Play Store, Ragnarok Online, Valorant, PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legend, Roblox and Google Maps.
Users negatively accepted this amendment, because based on it, developers will have to provide the government with access to their personal data, and this is a direct violation of rights.
Separately, I would like to note PayPal, which was registered on July 20, but ten days later it is still blocked. The government does not name a specific time frame for unlocking companies, so users can only wait and hope for the best.
