Nintendo pulled out of Gamescom 2022
Japanese gaming giant Nintendo will not be coming to Gamescom 2022, so visitors to the Cologne show will not be able to play games from the Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing and other franchises.
However, the company will be represented at a number of other events in Germany. Big N also has a booth at the Matsuri Japan Festival.
This decision is strange as Nintendo is scheduled to release Splatoon 3 on September 9 this year. Gamescom 2022 could be a great platform to advertise the game.
At the moment, the list of major publishers that will be featured at Gamescom 2022 is as follows:
- THQ Nordic;
- Bandai Namco Entertainment;
- Koch media.
For comparison, the list of Gamescom 2019 participants included the following companies:
- 2K;
- Activision Blizzard;
- Bandai Namco Entertainment;
- Bethesda;
- Capcom;
- CD Project;
- Deep Silver;
- Electronic Arts;
- THQ Nordic;
- others.
The break in 2020-2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on exhibitions with visitors, as the lion's share of publishers has already gone online.
