Deep Silver Volition explains why they are relaunching the Saints Row series

Deep Silver Volition, the developer behind Saints Row, discussed why the management decided to completely relaunch the series and answered other fan questions. They made an FAQ section on Twitter, where they collected the most interesting.

The developers started with the question of character customization, one of the main features of the game that all fans liked. According to Deep Silver Volition, players will still be able to create exactly the character they want, and in this they will be helped by an improved character customization system. In the new part, there will be many more tools and variations of the look. The developers called the character customization process the deepest and most breakthrough in the history of this game series. It should be a cut above what was in the early parts. The system of layers of clothing has not been forgotten either. Users will be able to combine clothes in an interesting way using layers, as before. As for the other data of the protagonist, the players will have the opportunity to give the character one of eight created voices, four of which will be male and four female. It will also be interesting that it will be possible to customize not only the main character, but also his wards. After the players have recruited ordinary gang members, it will be possible to customize the appearance of these characters. The garage also did not stand aside and will be subject to change. To do this, of course, you have to visit a special garage.

Fans of the Saints Row series were interested in the ideological question: why, in fact, do they need a complete restart if they liked the old characters? The developers gave a completely logical answer. In the last numbered part, the world was completely destroyed and this story cannot be continued, and therefore they decided to restart. While the game will be a reimagining, some of the things that made Saints Row a recognizable brand will remain in place. We are talking about the corporate purple color, the main symbol in the form of a heraldic lily and the gameplay, which will carry the fun that was liked in the previous installments. The developers insist that their project will not turn into newfangled MOBA projects or a "royal battle". Deep Silver Volition remembered the players' addiction to corporate humor - he, too, will have to stay in the game.

The developers slightly opened the veil of secrecy and provided some details about the characters that will surround the main character. Each of the gang members has a criminal past behind them. However, most of them, before meeting the main character, were engaged in petty crimes. To new achievements in the illegal activities of criminals pushed the unwillingness to work for others and become the kings of their lives. In this regard, they had a sense of the opportunity to capture the entire city, which they will do.

The proprietary co-op, which allowed two players to go through the title from start to finish, also did not go anywhere. The killer feature from Deep Silver Volition has reached a new level. Now, for a joint game, it will be possible to use crossplay, that is, to play a new title on different platforms and even generations: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.

A relaunch of Saints Row is planned for February 25 next year on the previous and current generation consoles. In addition, the game should appear on computers. The title will be distributed by representatives of the Epic Games Store.

Despite all the statements of the developers, their words must be listened to with caution. After the release of the first video, not as many Saints Row enthusiasts as the developers expected were imbued with sympathy for the new characters. Fans did not appreciate the change in the characters and the general style in the direction of the modern trend. Gamers have accused Deep Silver Volition of overly following trends that fight against the infringement of the rights of racial and gender minorities. After that, the developers said that they were not going to change the style of the game and would stick to the given direction.
