ePremier League Announces Expansion To China
The Premier League has announced a partnership with Tencent Sports, Tencent Gaming and EA SPORTS to bring its ePremier League esports competition to China.
According to a press release, this is the first ePremier League event to take place outside the United Kingdom. The tournament will take place on EA SPORTS FIFA Online 4 and will kick off on April 28th.
In the ePremier League Championship, some of the best Chinese gamers fighting in FIFA Online 4, as well as content creators and influencers, will represent all 20 Premier League clubs. It was also announced that the tournament will be broadcast live by Tencent throughout China.
All Premier League clubs will be split into four groups of five teams, with the winners of each group advancing to the playoffs. Although the group stage matches will be played online, the playoffs are expected to take place offline in Bay of Wisdom, Shanghai. Note that the relegation matches will begin on May 14th.
China's ePremier League event will seek to expand its digital presence in the country, according to the Premier League. In addition to streaming on Tencent, the esports tournament will be available on Huya, Douyu and Yizhibo.
