GCN and Van Wagner to Host National Student Esports Series
Esports media group Gaming Community Network (GCN) will partner with sports and entertainment firm Van Wagner to host a series of student esports tournaments across North America.
Each event will feature teams from ten National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) conferences, namely America East Conference, Big South Conference, Big West Conference, Colonial Athletic Association, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Southland Conference, Sun Belt Conference, West Coast Conference, Western Athletic Conference and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
As part of the deal, Van Wagner will act as the exclusive multimedia rights partner for each participating NCAA conference and will stream all of the series' matches on its official esports Twitch channel. In addition, the firm will provide corporate sponsorship for the series.
GCN will debut the series on its esports and gaming sites, which, according to the release, have over 65 million unique viewers each month.
The series kicks off in May 2021 with an Online Fortnite Tournament. Students of any school participating in the conference can form a team and sign up for competitions for real or scholarship money. The top two teams from each tournament will advance to the final championship.
