Hangzhou Downtown Esports Venue to host 2022 Asian Games esports events
Hangzhou Committee of the Asian Games has announced that Hangzhou city center became the official venue for the competitions in eSports Asian Games in 2022.
According to the announcement, construction of the facility began in September 2020 and is expected to be completed half a month ahead of schedule. In addition, the pile work has been completed and the foundation of the building is 60% complete. The 2022 Asian Games are scheduled for September 10-25.
The committee also announced that the entire site will be designed for 4087 seats and will occupy an area of 80 thousand square meters.
Esports, along with break dancing, have been approved by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to compete in the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games as a medal sport at the end of 2020. Esports will join the "intellectual disciplines" in this event alongside chess and will include six esports disciplines. The official names of the games have not been disclosed yet.
Note that the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta also featured six games included as demo disciplines, including League of Legends, Arena of Valor, Pro Evolution Soccer 2018, StarCraft II, Hearthstone, and Clash Royale.
