100 Thieves laid off about 30 employees
According to Jacob Wolf, the North American esports organization 100 Thieves laid off about 30 employees in sales, marketing, content and human resources departments. It is reported that this is about one-sixth of the entire headquarters of the company, which is one of the largest in North America.
The layoffs affected senior positions, including chief revenue officer Matty Lee, vice president of account management and integrated marketing Cathy Chapel, vice president of IT Nichelle Dudley, director of human resources Amber Fonts, director of talent Bailey Hydehues, director of post-production by Frank Door, director of production operations Alex Salamunovich, director of facilities Rowena Dee and head of partnerships Hillary Gilmour.
John Robinson, the organization's president and COO, commented on the layoffs on his social media: "We're having a tough day today, we needed to downsize the organization a bit. We're in a difficult economic situation, and like all sports (and esports) organizations, sponsorship is an important part of our business Juvee and Higround are healthy and growing but partnerships are still our biggest source of income - our sponsors support pays for all of our esports and content and a lot of the cool stuff we do Tomorrow joins us new CRO and we have many new strong partners. More than ever, we appreciate all the support of the organization, our employees and our sponsors."
Interestingly, the 100 Thieves organization was already subject to a massive wave of layoffs last summer. Then the club significantly reduced its content production team.
