Bruno Fernandez and Juan Mata become shareholders of Rebels Gaming
Spanish eSports organization Rebels Gaming has announced that football players Bruno Fernandez and Juan Mata are becoming shareholders of the club. Note that the current and former Manchester United players are joining an organization founded by David De Gea, the goalkeeper of the Red Devils.
This is a new world for me and I really want to learn more about this sector,” said Juan Mata
Esports is a new way to compete and it motivates me and gets my attention. I saw how David enjoyed the games of Rebels Gaming, and now I will be glad to do it with him as part of the project,” said Bruno Fernandez
This isn't the first time that traditional sports stars have moved closer to esports. Stars such as Lando Norris, Gerard Pique, David Beckham and Sergio Aguero have long invested in esports teams and created their own clubs. One such athlete is David De Gea, the Manchester United goalkeeper who founded Spanish esports organization Rebels Gaming in 2021.
On October 11, football stars Bruno Fernandez and Juan Mata were announced as official shareholders of Rebels Gaming. In a statement, De Gea stated that he "knew they would both bring positive value to esports" and that he was "delighted to welcome two wonderful colleagues and friends" to the esports world.
Juan Mata, Spanish footballer, European champion in 2012 and world champion in 2010 in the national team, and now a midfielder for Galatasaray. Bruno Fernandes, partner of David de Gea, a key player of Manchester United and an idol of the Portuguese public.
Both players said they are thrilled to be part of the world of esports, a new realm of rivalry for two players with a wealth of experience competing in traditional sports.
The Rebels Gaming organization is currently represented in such disciplines as League of Legends, VALORANT, and Rainbow Six. In addition, the club supports the women's VALORANT team.
