Gone too far - ex-player in Gears of War was shot dead during an argument
Disappointing news came from law enforcement in Virginia, USA. A dispute took place near one of the houses, which the parties could not resolve peacefully, and not the most pleasant discussion turned into a shootout.
It resulted in the death of Chris 'xcells' Hill, known for his work on the professional Gears of War scene. The incident took place on Wednesday. The Enigma6 esportsman now mourns his Gears of War community.
The 26-year-old player approached the homeowner on Gooda Highway and, unable to resolve the dispute amicably, the owner of the house decided to defend himself in a rather drastic way. He took out a weapon and inflicted injuries that were incompatible with the life of an esportsman.
To date, no charges have been filed against the man. More information from law enforcement may be available later.
One of his friends, known under the nickname xSUND0WN, made a post on his Twitter account. He said that xcells "fought the demons of his past and tried to become a better person." Whether Chris Hill struggled with any consequences that brought him psychological problems or not is still unknown.
XSUND0WN wrote the following:
I know that you fought many demons from your past and tried to become a better person. I will cherish the time we talk and watch you compete. Regardless of anything and everything, you don't deserve this Chris.
xcells' career as a professional Gears of War player began in 2014. He took part in matches under the tag LoX, NRG and other clubs. His main achievement was the victory at MLG GameBattles 2K Series 2016.
The last participation in the tournament on the professional stage was very sad. The player tried his hand at the fifth qualifier for Fall League 2019 as part of Lux and left the competition after the first match, which turned out to be a failure for his team.
