The International 2016: Day 2 Recap: 2-0's and Upsets all the way!

Everybody loves the underdogs winning. The team that you least expect to win against a popular giant team is crazy enough, having them knocked out of the competition where $8 million is on the line for the Grand Prize is a completely different thing, Well, all that and more went down in Day 2. Take a look at our short recap before Day 3 later, which we'll also cover. Any fan should need a refresher after what happened in Day 2 of The International 2016's Main Event.

EHOME vs Alliance (2-0)

Yes, that's right. EHOME's stellar rampage performance doesn't end where it stands - in the group stages. From their point-of-view, they are standing on thick ice as they're still dominating through the Upper Bracket as if it was nothing. Even if they'll lose, they still have the Lower Bracket. They have defeated The International 2013 Grand Champions, Alliance. They did it in such a fast fashion for the first game of the day, that it was almost painful to watch if you're a solid Alliance fan.

It would've been a good match to lose if it were any other team, but Aliiance has lost big-time to a Chinese Wildcard team that isn't that feared in their region for the longest of time. But in their defense, EHOME has been dominating since the Wildcards and their momentum just is too powerful to topple for the Swedish champs. It just goes to show that the "underdogs and wildcards" just became a serious threat in this competition.

However, with all that's said and done with this series, Alliance isn't eliminated just yet. They're still alive for the count in the Lower Bracket and are set to fight Fnatic in a Best-of-3 series by Day 4. EHOME will have the same fight in the same Day, as they're set to face Evil Geniuses, the former The International Grand Champions (2015).

Evil Geniuses vs Newbee (2-0)

The heavily feared Chinese team, Newbee, succumbed to the TI5 champs, Evil Geniuses. It's been a known fact that Newbee hasn't been on the top of their game, as seen in  the Group Stages, and it just goes to show in this Upper Bracket match. This match hasn't been that much of a surprise for everyone, if it weren't for the fact that EG annihilated Newbee in their first match and managed to turn the tides in a 70-minute game in the second. The Nanyang Champs hadn't got a pryaer on EG in this match-up.

That said, as this was an Upper Bracket match, Newbee still has the Lower Bracket route chance to get back in the game. Newbee will be set to face Team Liquid for a Best-of-3 Loser Elimation match. Evil Geniuses, as aforementioned, will be facing EHOME in the Upper Bracket.

Digital Chaos vs LGD Gaming (2-0)

Digital Chaos is a powerful team as we all know. However, we never thought that they could destroy LGD Gaming so easily. But in LGD's defense, it has been a rough The International for LGD Gaming as Banana wasn't able to secure his visa for the event. The change from him to Banana was really hard for LGD, as shown in the group stages alone. This game is a really hard fall for LGD fans, but it's a joyous moment for all Team Secret fans who wanted to see LGD gone for making Team Secret disappear from The International 2016 as well.

LGD Gaming has been elimated from the competition. On the other hand, Digital Chaos will be set to face TnC Gaming in a Best-of-3 match in the Lower Bracket.

TnC Gaming vs OG (2-0)

Of course, we had to save the best for last. In a match dubbed as the biggest upset in The International history, the "little outsider team" coming into The International 2016 showed why they are wildly respected in their region and why they're best of Southeast Asia. Having secured an 8th place finish, they have brought down OG, the team that fans predicted to most likely have been TI6's Grand Champions. Leaving OG to drop-out of The International 2016 for good.

Everyone who has ever watched TnC's games in The International 2016 can approve when we say that they have been giving every team they have ever faced a really hard time. From the surprise victory over LGD Gaming, causing LGD to lose momentum and eventually fall off the ranks, to the defeat nailbiter matches with Evil Geniuses in the group stages, the addition of  Jimmy "DeMoN" Ho is definitely a huge boost to the already skilled TnC Gaming roster.

With this huge victory, TnC Gaming is well and alive in the competition. They're set to face Digital Chaos in another Best-of-3 series. As aforementioned, TnC will secure an 8th place finish whether or not they lose to Digital Chaos or not. OG, on the other hand, will be leaving The International 2016 with 300k in their pockets.
