Hyperliquid Announces HIP-4

The decentralized exchange Hyperliquid has announced the implementation of a new feature in its HyperCore engine called HIP-4, which will enable "outcome trading." These contracts are fully collateralized assets that settle in a fixed range and are designed for applications such as prediction markets and bounded options, without the use of leverage or liquidations. This expands the platform's expressiveness by adding non-linearity, dated contracts, and an alternative form of derivative trading that integrates with other elements, such as portfolio margining and HyperEVM.

According to the official announcement, HIP-4 addresses significant user demand in the areas of prediction markets and options. The developers note that this primitive feature could become the foundation for new innovative applications created by the community. Currently, the feature is being tested on the testnet, and canonical markets based on objective settlement sources will be launched after the completion of technical development. They will be denominated in the USDH stablecoin, and subject to positive user feedback, the infrastructure will be expanded to permitted deployment.

The market reacted positively to the news: the Hyperliquid HYPE token rose approximately 10% during the day, reaching around $32.50 according to CoinMarketCap data. According to CoinMarketCap, the price was $32.46 with a 24-hour increase of 10.4%, and the market capitalization exceeded $7.7 billion, placing HYPE in 21st place among cryptocurrencies. Some analysts predict further growth, up to $100, considering the potential competition with platforms like Polymarket and Kalshi in the prediction markets segment.

Experts note that HIP-4 could change the DeFi landscape by offering less risky instruments compared to perpetual futures. At the same time, these are not full-fledged event-based prediction markets, but rather binary options with $1/$0 payouts based on prices. Projects focused on complex oracles, like Trueo, may remain out of competition, while sports betting and price markets will feel the pressure.
