Politicians ready to return money donated by Sam Bankman-Freed
After Sam Bankman-Fried was accused of fraudulently using client money for his own benefit and the bankruptcy of the American cryptocurrency exchange FTX, some politicians returned the money received from the former CEO of the crypto platform.
Now other officials can join these people. Two months after the collapse of FTX, the Manhattan federal prosecutor's office formally filed charges against the SBF for violating campaign finance law. This spurred even more officials to reconsider their attitude to the finances received from Bankman-Fried.
Analysts from MarketWatch decided to conduct their own investigation into the issue of campaign finance. They were able to examine a large amount of data from the Federal Election Commission and try to identify officials who received funds from Bankman-Fried. MarketWatch experts concluded that the SBF managed to donate more than 50 officials representing the Democratic Party. From the side of the Republican parties, only 8 people received such an honor.
According to representatives of MarketWatch, 25 officials have already announced their intentions to return the funds received from Sam Bankman-Fried. The experts also noted that the former CEO of FTX tended to donate money only to those figures who promoted the active fight against COVID-19.
Recently, Sam Bankman-Fried made a new comment regarding the collapse of the American cryptocurrency exchange. According to him, the main reason was not his incompetent and cunning disposal of funds, but the protracted crypto winter and the global downtrend of 2022. At the same time, he does not mind that some strategic mistakes were made in the management of FTX and his second company, Alameda Research. The SBF said it wants to do its best to make up for the loss of all FTX investors.
Earlier it became known that a special unit was created to investigate the case of Sam Bankman-Fried. A new team of employees has been assembled to find lost funds and return them to all FTX customers.
