Metaverse Post: Web3 investment was $4,800,000,000 more in 2022 than in 2021

Despite the fact that last year was one of the worst for the digital asset industry in terms of events and drawdowns of all cryptocurrencies, Web3 technologies show a great desire for development. This was told by representatives of the Metaverse Post and other cryptocurrency experts.

The protracted crypto winter did not prevent the Metaverse and other products from the field of Web3 technologies from surpassing last year's result by $4,800,000,000. 2022 has been a year of development for the next iteration of the internet industry, and 2023 could show even more spectacular results.

There have been many large investments in Web3 by many individual contributors and large players, including investment funds Morgan Stanley and GOldman Sachs.

Other leading organizations from the field of digital assets directed their gaze towards Web3, among which you can name Coinbase Ventures and Kraken Ventures and even Binance Labs.

Wholesale Investor provided an infographic showing that the Polygon, Algorand Foundation, Binance, and Ethereum Foundation have been helping out in the game of improving Web3 technologies. Binance was expected to inject the most money, the total investment of which exceeded the $1,100,000,000 mark.

Although 2022 was extremely unfortunate for the entire industry and we could see the closure of many startups and will continue to see the consequences of past events in 2023, 348 new projects were launched last year. The total investment in them amounted to more than $7,160,000,000. The Metaverse Post reports that this is $4,800,000,000 more than the same figure in 2021.

According to research conducted in the field of investments in Web3, it was found that the key aspects of the third iteration of Internet technologies for deposits were metaverses, social platforms, cryptogaming, virtual reality with VR and AR technologies, as well as infrastructure in general and Artificial Intelligence.

It is noteworthy that there was no sector that was the favorite of investors throughout the year. Instead, leadership was replaced by different sectors, indicating a change in interests on the part of investors. For example, the sector of metauniverses and games Play2Earn became the leader of the II quarter.

Of particular note is Epic Games, which was able to raise around $2,000,000,000 in investment from tech giant Sony and KIRKBI holding, which owns LEGO. Epic Games announced that the money raised will go specifically to the development of the metaverses.

The creators of the legendary Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection, represented by Yuga Labs, in turn, managed to raise $450,000,000 in order to develop their Otherside metaverse. The latter has become a kind of habitat for the owners of Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT tokens, and ApeCoin has become a bargaining chip there.

Another company that has made a big contribution to the development of the metaverse is Animoca Brands. The latter raised over $430,000,000 and invested it in the blockchain gaming sector. Animoca Brands has also regularly invested in other Web3 projects, one of which is Immutable. As a result, Immutable received over $200,000,000.

Nobody forgot about cybersecurity either. The FTX case was a great reminder that users should not forget about their own security issues, and cryptocurrency exchanges should invest in this.

Coinbase, by the way, ignored the request from the New York State Department of Financial Services and now must pay not only a fine of fifty million evergreens, but also invest the same amount in improving the security of their site. You can read about this in the material in which we talked in detail about this incident.

Returning to the topic with large amounts of investments, it is worth noting that 4 companies invested most of the money in the development of Web3 technologies: Paradigm, Andreessen Horowitz, HiveMind and Binance Labs. These four market participants alone have invested over $7,000,000,000.
