Reebok Starts Registering New Trademarks for the Metaverse

The well-known sportswear brand Reebok has filed applications for the design of new trademarks. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will now review an application received from Reebok that is related to the Metaverse. In total, the company submitted two such applications.

As a consequence of the approval of such applications, Reebok will be able to issue new non-fungible tokens. NFT collections may include new items of clothing that avatars can wear. Among the new things may be new pairs of shoes, sports equipment, various sports body kits that can be attached to avatars and so on. In addition, Reebok wants to release multimedia files so that their new non-fungible tokens include not only collections in the form of clothes, but also in the form of audio tracks, text, video, images and other media that can later be used in the metaverse.

Among other things, Reebok wants to not only issue new non-fungible tokens, but also open their own marketplace with NFT coins. That's what Nike did recently when they opened up the Swoosh platform. This marketplace positions itself as an NFT platform where users can exchange non-fungible tokens, as well as sell and buy them. Besides the fact that users can own virtual sneakers, they can also take part in their creation. The full launch of Swoosh is scheduled for 2023, and the platform is currently in beta testing.

Reebok, just like with the new NFT collections, wants not only clothing elements to appear on their platform, but also a media component. So their new NFT-platform should have artistic images, video clips and more.

In addition to the previously mentioned Nike, Adidas has also entered the Web 3.0 sphere. If the US Patent and Trademark Office approves two new Reebok trademarks, then the American sportswear manufacturer could join Adidas and Nike, adding to the list of well-known brands that have entered the NFT token sphere.

This is not the first time that Reebok has taken steps towards the development of Web 3.0 technology. In 2021, the sports brand collaborated with rapper Nast and released a joint NFT collection on RFOX NFT, one of the non-fungible token trading platforms.

Returning to you other brands that have entered the field of Web 3.0, it is worth mentioning Adidas in a special way. The German sportswear brand has launched its Virtual Gear non-fungible token collection, featuring 16 unique jackets. So far, Adidas have done without shoes. Most likely, collections with sports shoes will appear on the NFT market later. Existing items of clothing can not only be bought and sold, but also put on your avatars in virtual worlds. This can be accessed through the use of the PFP dressing tool. It is noteworthy that Adidas clothing from the Virtual Gear collection can be worn in almost any metaverse. One of the first virtual worlds where Virtual Gear integration is planned will be The Sandbox.
